Kumite RPG Level 1 Playtest

So last weekend i finished off the playtest engine and ran through 10 games for each style against each style. This equates to 660 fights!!

Avg. time to run a fight IRL is approx. 30 minutes so to do this manually it would have taken 330 hours!! using the magic of javascript it took about an hour.

you too can check out the playtest engine here -> http://playtest.kumiterpg.com

Please have a play and let me know your thoughts.

Findings from this playtest were, Karate was OP and Kung Fu was weak af. tweaked the set up of these 2 styles and everything was pretty balanced.

Kumite RPG Play Test – Aikido Vs judo

The 6th and final fight of the Kumite play test series saw Aikido and Judo, both victorious in their second round fights, face off against each other.

In a fight that went the full 3 rounds, Judo was victorious on a “by rounds” basis (the actual rules) winning the first 2 rounds narrowly while Aikido won on a “by HP” basis dealing 7 HP damage in the final round!! WOW!!!!

This has been a great experience and the game has definitely improved and come along way because of it.

I’m going to re-write the core rules to reflect the learnings from these play tests and continue to work on technique lists for all of the 12 martial arts. Perhaps once all 12 have level 1 techniques written up I can revisit this series and run a U.F.C. elimination style tournament to play test all of the styles in action.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Kumite RPG Play Test – Boxing vs Capoeira

Another K.O!!!

A fairly major change for this fight, i swapped out using a d20 for a d6 and i think it worked for the better. Good and bad rolls still had an effect but not as much as on the d20. Also, more crits!! (thats just maths). This means that character stats have more of an impact now than when using a d20. I’m thinking this will be a permanent change.

Capoeira went on full attack mode, got gassed by the end of the first round but managed to hang in there and get the K.O. by mid round 2.

Definitely worth a listen.

Keen to hear feedback so comment below.
